In Memory of STREAK

November 28, 2018 by Gina Woods-Norris Leave a Comment

STREAK POWELL

July 4, 2000 – June 19, 2018  Always packed up and ready to go on a new adventure…

Deepest thanks and appreciation to MarQueen Veterinary Clinic for so lovingly and respectfully guiding STREAK on her final journey.

STREAK was a wanderer and traveler even as a kitten.  She came into Myk and Roberta Powell’s life on the island of Guam at only one-month-old.

During a heavy rainstorm, Roberta watched STREAK’s mom moving her kittens from the backyard to the front yard.  Roberta wanted to help, but STREAK’s mom seemed to be doing all right on her own.

Then suddenly, one of the kittens ran away and hid in the money tree (large jade plant) in front of the house.  Roberta rushed out to help and hacked down the money tree to free the kitten (damaging a money tree is considered EXTREMELY BAD LUCK on Guam).  Roberta only succeeded in making the kitten run like lightning under the car and into the engine compartment, where she stayed for 3 days!

Even mama kitty gave up on luring her out! After opening a “stinky” can of cat food and providing a dish of water, the kitten popped her head out and allowed Myk and Roberta to take her inside.

Because of the orange lightning bolt marking on her face and the speed she could run, she was aptly named STREAK. She has been with Roberta and Myk her entire life – almost 18 years!

Streak was a tough little kitty…  She survived a Category 5 typhoon on Guam and a 7.2 earthquake in Paso Robles which completely destroyed our family’s home.

STREAK was quite the traveler – flying 7,000 miles across the Pacific from Guam to Los Angeles (in first class, while Roberta sat in the last row of coach!).  Then traveling by car from Los Angeles to Paso Robles, on to San Jose and finally to Sacramento as her “parents” jobs took them on several moves.

She loved her orange cat stroller from her Auntie Gale, and took “walks” around the neighborhood.  STREAK also walked in her purple harness and continued her “wanderings” her whole life.

We miss her every day as she has left a huge hole in our hearts.  Thank you for caring about STREAK.
